The Best Sunset Spots on Anna Maria Island
By the Vacation Thyme team

Anna Maria Island's Gulf side faces west, so a good sunset is rarely far away. These are the spots we like best, with a few notes on parking and what to expect.
Bean Point
The north tip of the island, where the Gulf of Mexico meets the mouth of Tampa Bay. It is the best-known sunset spot on the island and looks toward Egmont Key and the Sunshine Skyway on clear days. There is no parking lot, no restrooms and no lifeguards, so walk in from a nearby access point, such as the corner of North Shore Drive and Gladiolus Street. Bring water and a towel.

Coquina Beach
At the south end, Coquina Beach has pines for shade, a long stretch of sand, restrooms and a large free lot. It is an easy pick for a family sunset because everything you need is close by. Stay for the golden light afterward.
Manatee Public Beach
In the middle of the island, with restrooms, showers, lifeguards, a cafe and a trolley stop. It is the simplest option if you want a sunset without a long walk.
Sunset with dinner
- Beach Bistro, 6600 Gulf Dr, Holmes Beach, (941) 778-6444. Gulf-front dining.
- Sandbar Restaurant, 100 Spring Ave, Anna Maria, (941) 778-0444. Beachfront tables.
- Kokonut Hut, Bradenton Beach. A casual tiki bar that locals mention for sunsets.
Call ahead if you have a group, because sunset is the busiest time.
A note on the piers

The Anna Maria City Pier and the Rod & Reel Pier are on the bay side of the island, so the sun sets behind the island rather than over open water. They are lovely for sunrise, a fishing break or a coffee, but for a true Gulf sunset, head to the beach.
Tips
- Arrive early to find parking, especially at the public lots.
- Pack a light layer for the breeze after the sun drops.
- Stay a few minutes after sunset. The sky often glows after the sun disappears.
